Finally, Naogaon town gets a newly built beautiful mosque, Naogaon Sadar Upazila Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center. Its design and appearance is mind blowing. Indeed, the design language is a mixture of Arabic and European architecture, adding new aesthetics to the Bangladeshi architectural landscape.
On 16 March 2023, the newly built Model Mosque was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh from her Ganabhaban residence through a virtual conference. In 2014, Awami League declared an election manifesto that they would build Model Mosque throughout all over Bangladesh if they won the election. As a result, as per of that election manifesto, the government declared their plan of building the Model Mosque project. The Model Mosque project has 3 categories. The Naogaon Sadar Upazila Model Mosque falls under ‘B’ category. The Naogaon Sadar Model Mosque was built in Naogaon town’s Par-Naogaon area. It is right in front of Hotel Raj in Dhopapara Mauza.
Mosque Features
The Naogaon Sadar Model Mosque isn’t just like any other traditional mosque where Muslims only come for prayers. It is more than a mosque with many facilities to connect the Muslim community with each other to build a strong Muslim brotherhood. This 3 story mosque has a total floor space of 1680.14 square meters. Therefore, a total number of 900 devotees can pray together at the Mosque.
Nevertheless, this model mosque will have many facilities to boost Islamic culture and social welfare. The mosque will provide facilities like, trainings for Hajj pilgrims, Imam training facility, Islamic research center and Islamic library, an Islamic Foundation sub office, autism prayer corner, rituals for Muslim dead body before burial, vehicle parking space, hifzakhana, pre-primary education, Quran learning center, conference facilities for Islamic cultural activities and Islamic dawat, Islamic books shop, a boarding accommodation for local and foreign guests inside the mosque premises and many more. To function the mosque without any interruption, it has a substation and generator.
Construction
Naogaon district will get a total number of 12 Model Mosques all over the district divided into two categories. Each of the 11 upazilas will get one ‘B’ category Upazila Model Mosque while the district town will get one ‘A’ category District Model Mosque. However, of the 12 Model Mosques, the governing body inaugurated only a few, while many of them are under construction. The government spent Taka 13 crore 41 lakh 80 thousand to build the Naogaon Sadar Upazila Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center. The mosque has been built with government funds. On March 05, 2020 Sadar upazila MP (Member of Parliament for Naogaon-5) Nizam Uddin Jalil John laid the foundation stone of the construction work. The Government’s Public Works Department was in charge of the construction to make the dream come true.
