About Raninagar Upazila

Raninagar Upazila (Bangla: রাণীনগর উপজেলা) also spelled Raninogor, is one of the 11 upazilas of Naogaon district. It has an area of 258.33 sq km. and bounded by Naogaon sadar and Adamdighi upazilas, Atrai upazila on the south, Nandigram and Singra upazilas on the east, Manda upazila on the west. Raninagar Upazila has two rivers: Little Jamuna and Nagar. The distance of this upazila from the district town is 14 km. Like other parts of the Naogaon district, Raninagar is also a village-dominated upazila.

Raninagar (Town) consists of one mouza. The area of the town is 0.1 sq km. The population of the town is 4757; male 51%, female 49%. The literacy rate among the town people is 34.2%. It has one railway station.

Naming History of Raninagar

Before it was named ‘Raninagar,’ this area was once visited by ‘Queen Khatteshwar‘ from the Natore Zamindar family. She stayed here for a night, and since then, the area has been known as Raninagar, which means ‘Queen’s Town‘.
