Naogaon Astan Mollah College

History

The Naogaon Astan Mollah College (Bangla: নওগাঁ আস্তান মোল্লা কলেজ) is situated in the Naogaon Sadar Upazila at KD Mor and next to Sadar Road within the Naogaon Pourashava (municipality) area. It is 400 meters east of Mukti Mor of the town. The college was established on 1 July 1992. The MPO (Monthly Payment Order) enrollment number of the college is 8306103101. The name of the educational institute at the time of establishment was Naogaon Astan Mollah Mahavidyalaya (Bangla: নওগাঁ আস্তান মোল্লা মহাবিদ্যালয়). At that time, the college only offered Higher Secondary education. After introducing Bachelor (Degree) courses (under National University of Bangladesh) it was renamed as Naogaon Astan Mollah Degree College. But now, it is mostly known as Naogaon Astan Mollah College. The college EIIN number is 123489.

As of 2024, the current principal of the college is Mr. Md. Mahbubul Islam, who has been serving since 2016. During the establishment of the college the founding principal was Mr. Bajlul Haque, who served from 1992 to 1998.

Who was Astan Mollah?

Astan Mollah was a farmer leader. He was a resident of the Hasaigari village of Hasaigari union under the present day Naogaon Sadar upazila. Farmers who were being oppressed by the then-British Government and Dubolhati landlords (Zamindar) came together under the leadership of farmer Astan Mollah. This movement started in 1893 AD. Astan Mollah was able to organize more than 50 thousand people in this movement.

This is the only institution in Naogaon named in honor of the farmer leader Astan Mollah, recognizing his courageous role.

The College has a website to connect and assist its students. But, the Naogaon Astan Mollah Degree College’s website looks outdated and not modern in design.
